Traffic Alert: Nighttime Lane Closure / Flagging Operation for Bees Ferry Widening Project February 13, 2012

Charleston County Government alerts drivers that a nighttime lane closure / flagging operation will occur on the Bees Ferry Road Widening Project in West Ashley.

Bees Ferry Nighttime Lane Closure / Flagging Operation

  • Drivers should expect a nighttime lane closure and flagging operation due to guardrail installation near the intersection of Still Shadow Drive on Bees Ferry Road.

  • The lane closure will occur in the left lane of Bees Ferry Road heading from US-17 towards SC-61.

  • The contractor will perform the work during the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. on the night of February 13, 2012 and morning of February 14, 2012.

Drivers traveling through the projectís construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limit and message board information, and to note that all road work is dependent on the weather.

The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed April 2014, is to make improvements to the entire 4.5 mile length of Bees Ferry Road from Savannah Highway (U.S. 17) to Ashley River Road (S.C. 61). The project was requested by the City of Charleston and was funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Program. Partial funding for the project was approved by voters in the second Transportation Sales Tax bond referendum.

The public can get more information and see photos of the construction process online at Visit the official website at for public meeting notices and up-to-date news and information about all Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax road projects.
