Traffic Alert: Nighttime Lane Closure on Bowman Road as part of the Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvements Project

Three-night lane closure from 9 p.m. – 6 a.m., Jan. 30- Feb. 1

Charleston County Government announces the following lane closure as part of continuing construction on the Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvements Project in Mount Pleasant:

  • Drivers should expect a nighttime lane closure on Bowman Road between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Monday, Jan. 30 to Wednesday, Feb. 1.

  • The closure will occur in front of K-Mart near Rosemade Avenue just east of the Shem Creek bridge.

  • Flagmen will be on site to control traffic.

  • The work is necessary to install waterlines.

  • If the weather is poor Jan. 30 – Feb. 1, the work will be completed during the same timeframe on the next weather permitted day.

Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times. Alternative routes are recommended if possible. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limit and message board information, and to note that all road work is dependent on the weather.

The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2013, is to improve the traffic flow in and out of Mount Pleasant, especially before and after school and work hours. The project is funded by Charleston County’s Transportation Sales Tax Program in close coordination with the Town of Mount Pleasant and the S.C. Department of Transportation.

The public can get up-to-date project information including construction status, traffic alerts and pictures online at
